Thank you for your interest in joining Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) as our new Director of People and Culture. We hope the information on this site helps you learn more about our organisation, our achievements, challenges, ambitions, and values.
We provide high quality inpatient and community mental health and learning disability services to a population of around 2 million people in County Durham and Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York. We also provide forensic and offender services across the North East, Cumbria and Lancashire. We have over 7,500 staff, over 150 sites and an annual budget approaching £400 million. Working across a huge geography our stakeholder footprint is complex. We work with nine commissioners and local authorities in addition to many other health and social care providers in the public, voluntary and independent sectors. We have an important role in ensuring parity for mental health and learning disability services, reducing stigma and supporting our people - staff, service users and their carers - to fulfil their potential.
I re-joined the Trust this summer as Chief Executive and have spent the first few months engaging with our staff and partners to understand their experience and views as we develop a new strategy for the Trust and new values and behaviours that they can really own. One of my two key measures of success as Chief Executive will be improving staff experience and delivering significant cultural change and I am committed to working with our new Director of People and Culture to engage with our workforce in order to achieve that aim. The other key measure is patient experience and that is inextricably linked to staff satisfaction. This is an exciting time to join TEWV and you will have a real opportunity to impact on our improvement journey ensuring that we are also support our staff and our population in the increased demand for our services during, and in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Whilst we have enjoyed significant success as a Trust, we were rated ‘Requires Improvement’ overall in our recent CQC inspection and we are committed to addressing the issues raised. We have some big challenges to face, but I am determined that our people will see us move on to greater things. Transforming our culture will be central to our commitment to providing the best possible service and experience to all our staff and service users.
Previous NHS experience is not essential for this role, I am interested in hearing from innovative and strategic leaders with demonstrable achievement of large scale organisational and culture change in any complex, service based organisation. I am keen to appoint a values-based and inclusive leader who will bring a relentless focus on staff empowerment and engagement and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
This is no ordinary HR role, we are looking for someone who is able to work strategically and lead us to become a truly values based organisation that is focussed on people. We are changing the culture and need someone who can lead our transformation and create a sustainable people focussed organisation.
